Travel tips

First of all, we are extremely grateful to all of you making the trip to Colombia to attend our wedding. We know it is a big effort and we would like to help you with any questions or doubts you have when planning your trip. On this page you will find some general recommendations for your trip, but please feel free to contact us with any and all questions you have!

Your arrival

We recommend flying into José María Córdova International Airport (MDE). It might be easier for some to fly into Bogotá (El Dorado International Airport), but don't worry, Medellín is just a quick 45-minute flight away. 

The wedding takes place in Guatapé, however some of you will visit Medellin beforehand. For those of you visiting Medellin before the wedding, you can take a taxi from the airport to the city. This should cost you about 150 thousand COP (€30).

For those of you coming straight to Guatapé from the airport, the transport should cost around 200 thousand COP (€40) to take you from the airport to Guatapé. Either way, we recommend to always check the price in Uber before getting into a transport so you're assured of a fair price.

Our recommendation is not to take taxi services directly from the airport, as they may charge different fees and may not be able to speak English. To avoid bargaining, it is preferable to use known service providers or Uber.

Medellin

For those interested in spending some days in Medellín before the wedding, El Poblado is the go-to neighborhood for many people visiting the city for the first time. This vast neighbourhood has a lot of the main bars, clubs, and restaurants. It is buzzing with activity and movement at night.
With less need to catch taxis or the Metro, a lot of this neighborhood is walkable, especially if you are staying near Parque Lleras or Provenza.

There's a lot of cool places to stay on Booking.com in the areas "Provenza" or "el Poblado" and we're sure you will love it. Location is everything so please feel free to check in with us when in doubt!

Regardless of where you stay, please do not "give papaya" by flashing expensive items and jewelry in public places and take a taxi when in doubt.

Guatapé

Guatapé is the “pueblito” (town or dorpje for the Dutchies) where the wedding venue “The Brown Hotel” is located. The Brown is a truly magical Marriott Hotel in a very peaceful part of Guatapé called Vereda Los Naranjos. Since it's a bit remote and traffic is very busy, please do not stay in other areas than los Naranjos for the wedding day.

We have a wedding code discount, and a tip is also to check the Marriott app, as it has some good discounts. However, Guatapé has accommodation options for all styles and budgets. Our suggestion is to stay in the Vereda los Naranjos or the surrounding areas, as it is close to the wedding venue and has very nice hotels, Airbnb’s (some include houses with several rooms, so perhaps you can arrange a house with some other friends that will be attending the wedding).

Welcome to Guatapé

Guatapé is a peaceful village (on the right) known for its proximity to the Piedra del Peñol (in the bottom of the image). For this reason Guatapé is filled with tourists and traffic can be problematic.

This is the hotel where we are getting married. It's amazing, but prices may be better on Booking.com or through Marriott Bonvoy app rather than booking via their website.

Luxe Cabañas

Luxe by the Charlee or Luxe Cabañas operates together with The Brown and from the same area. These little houses are great for families or larger groups and may be cheaper as well.
